Update 25-11-05
Dutch forensic investigators have examined the tape aired on the Dr. Phil show and declared it has been tampered with. They’ve requested the FBI also analyze it. Skeeters states that the original 2 hour version he has on DVD (and provided investigaors a copy of) has been edited down to approximately 4 minutes to be aired on the Dr. Phil show and that any ‘tampering’ is a result by the show’s editing. Watch this video clip of Skeeters talking to Greta about the tape.
The discussion centers around the words ‘did’ and ‘did not’, regarding to whether the 3 suspects had sex with Natalee. The Dutch analysis claim to hear Deepak saying ‘did not’. If that’s the case, then Deepak’s statements to the police are consistent with the tape. If not, the police are ready to bring them him in for re-questioning and possibly re-arrest him. But Aruba law enforcement wants to make sure what is said on that tape is clear.
Update 01-12-05
Greta van Susteren has played unedited portions of the tape on her show december 1st. Instead of Deepak saying “You would be surprised how simple it was….”, he said “You would be surprised how simple it would have been.”. This has completely different implications than was construed from the aired version during the Dr. Phil show. Read more about this on Greta Wire blog entry Tale of the tape. You can also watch the video here.
HarryTho at Hyscience has written an extensive post on this today.
He quotes from the show the following:
“Deepak says: “No, she didn’t.” And, the other statement actually reads: “You’d be surprised how easy it would have been that night.” So, the second statement has been manipulated, as well. Also, Arlene Ellis Schipper commented that the video shows Deepak Kalpoe shaking his head “no” when he says “No, she didn’t.” On the 8-second Beta video, Dr. Phil’s technicians froze Deepak’s head by a spit-frame technique in order to camouflage the head movement. ”

I’m surprised this is not even a scandal by now.
